The Education-Driven Economic Revitalisation of Northern Tasmania
11 March 2016, the Education-Driven Economic Revitalisation of Northern Tasmania proposal was announced by the University of Tasmania, the State Government and partners. The scope and cost of the proposal has been confirmed with the main objective to relocate the Burnie and Launceston campuses at a cost of $300 million.
Relocating the University’s Newnham campus to new facilities at Inveresk and Willis Street will cost $260 million and relocating the Cradle Coast campus to Burnie’s West Park will cost $40 million. Project funding partners – the University of Tasmania, Tasmanian Government, City of Launceston, and Burnie City Council – have collected committed to investing $150 million into the project. The remaining funding will be sought from the Australian Government.
