Return of the Smart Cities and Suburbs Program

Round Two open for applications

Return of the Smart Cities and Suburbs Program

On 2 May the Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, announced the opening of a second round of the Program, with around $22 million of funding available through a competitive grant process.

Round Two of the Program will be open for applications from 2 May through to 5pm AEST on 2 July 2018.

Round Two encourages applications for collaborative projects, led by local governments, which apply innovative technology solutions to urban challenges, delivering economic, social and environmental benefits.

Some changes to the Program Guidelines for Round Two have been made based on stakeholder feedback and learnings from Round One. These changes include:

  • Requirement for local government bodies to be lead applicants.
  • An increase of the minimum grant amount to $250,000, with a co-contribution of at least 50 per cent of the total project costs.
  • Streamlining the guidelines related to innovation to ensure that projects go beyond business as usual and provide smart technology solutions to community challenges.
