RDA Tasmania welcomes Minister McVeigh
On December 20, 2017 John McVeigh was sworn in as the Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government.
Dr McVeigh is the Federal Minister for Groom, Queensland. He has a Bachelor of Business (Marketing & Economics) (University of Southern Queensland), Master of Business Administration (Bond University) and a PhD in Agribusiness Management (University of Queensland).
His commercial career prior to politics included administrative, marketing and management positions with the Bank of Queensland, Elders Pastoral, Cargill Australia, Department of Primary Industries, Fisheries Research and Development Corporation and the International Food Institute of QLD.
His elevation to Cabinet will put him in charge of the RDA program and the implementation of the reform measures.
RDA Tasmania’s Tom Black met with Dr McVeigh in October, 2017 at the Select Committee on Regional Development and Decentralisation’s public hearing in Launceston where subjects such as City Deals, global competitiveness and the secrets of a successful RDA were discussed.
We look forward to working with Dr McVeigh. We also wish to thank Fiona Nash and Darren Chester MP for their time with the regional development portfolio.
