$52.1 million Tasmania Connections package

More Water Investment for Tasmania

The package of projects is jointly funded by the Australian Government ($20 million through the National Water Grid Fund), TasWater and other sources ($32.1 million). Construction is expected to be completed in mid 2023.

Water infrastructure projects under the Tasmania Connections package include new and extended pipelines, and new and expanding reusable water schemes. These projects will increase availability and reliability of water for agricultural producers.

Tasmanian water infrastructure projects under the Connections pathway include:

Greater Meander Irrigation Scheme Augmentation

  • Open supply channels will be converted to new and extended pipelines, to provide an additional 12,500 megalitres of water for irrigators.

Shellfish Lease Water Quality Improvement Program

  • 84 sewage pump stations will be upgraded, to improve water quality for shellfish production.

Penna Recycled Water Scheme Expansion

  • An existing reuse scheme will be expanded to enable effluent to be reused, increasing availability and reliability of water for local agricultural producers.

South Arm Recycled Water Pipeline

  • A new recycled water irrigation scheme will be upgraded, to provide high-quality irrigation water for the region’s primary producers to transition to higher value agriculture.
