new June 2021 data
The latest Tasmanian Visitor Survey (TVS) results show that while there has been an understandable decrease in people visiting Tasmania on scheduled air and sea services during the year ending June 2021 compared to June 2020*, demand for Tasmania has been strong. Each of the months in the April to June 2021 quarter saw a significantly higher spend by interstate visitors compared to the same months in 2019. The months of April and May 2021 saw record total interstate visitors for the same months in any year previously, despite restricted international borders.
This is a positive sign that when borders do reopen with our major markets of New South Wales and Victoria, we can expect strong demand and a more positive and certain 2022.
Key results have been published in the Tasmanian Tourism Snapshot for the year ending June 2021. A summary of the latest consumer, market, access and industry insights is available in the Industry Research and Insights Update (October 2021).
*The year ending June 2021 period captures approximately eight months of visitation data due to COVID-19 restrictions and the interruption of TVS data collection. The year ending June 2020 period captured nine months of visitation data from July 2019 to March 2020.
