Education in the Future Panel

Sustainability in the Pub’s May event in Launceston

The focus of May's event explores the question - what does equitable and quality Tasmanian education look like in an uncertain future?

Led in conversation by Dr Kim Beasy, we bring together three speakers, each with their own personal and professional experiences of working with education in Tasmania.

On the panel:

  • Professor Sue Kilpatrick, Faculty of Education UTAS
  • Melody West, Researcher, Peter Underwood Centre UTAS
  • Lu McGinniss, Teacher, Department of Education

Tasmania is one of Australia's regions of entrenched educational and economic disadvantage, with comparatively high levels of unemployment. Education outcomes for this island-state are generally poorer than the national average for Australia and raising educational outcomes is an important priority of the Tasmanian Government and the University of Tasmania.

But what outcomes of education are needed in a changing world? In the face of technological innovations, climate change and increasing migration, what does equitable and quality education look like for Tasmania into the future?

Date: Tue 28 May, 5.30 PM – 7.00 PM
