Call for accommodation to join emergency housing initiative

Brokered accommodation needed in the off-season

The Premier of Tasmania has called on tourism operators to help increase the capacity of brokered accommodation in high-demand areas. Brokered accommodation is where the Government leases lower-cost tourism accommodation like cabins, caravans, hotels or motels. Due to the need for additional short-term accommodation this winter, the Government is calling for additional “off-season” options which could be immediately leased until additional affordable housing stock comes on line.

Brokered accommodation is administered by Housing Connect which is contactable on 1800 800 588.  Housing Connect can explain how brokerage works and what safeguards can be put in place for accommodation providers.
