The Productivity Commission released in December their study report into the transition of regional economies following the resources boom
This report was released on 15 December 2017 and looks into the geographic impacts of the transition of the Australian economy following the resources investment boom. The purpose of the study was to examine the regional geography of Australia's economic transition, since the mining investment boom, to identify those regions and localities that face significant challenges in successfully transitioning to a more sustainable economic base and the factors which will influence their capacity to adapt to changes in economic circumstances.
The report contains some useful key points relating to the changing global economy, the variations between urban and regional areas and how the practice of regional development could be improved. Tasmania, the Productivity Commission report, is like other parts of regional Australia, less capable to adapt than urban areas and regions adjacent to major cities.
